Oskar Schindler and Krakow in the 2nd world war.
Before taking the Schinder’s tour is it worthwhile watching Spielberg’s masterpiece ‘Schindler’s list’ to set the scene and bring to life what is a relatively recent history, if you have not already seen it.
The Schindler tour begins by exploring the old Jewish quarter – Kazimierz from where there is still a legacy of old synagogues from the now virtually extinct Jewish population.
Mixed in with incredible and true stories of Oskar Schindlers actions, the tour allows you to get your bearings on how Kazimerz was connected to Podgorze and how Podgorze was blockaded with it’s natural geographic boundaries to crate the infamous ‘Jewish ghetto’.
Throughout the tour, the locations from some of the film’s famous scenes are visited where you will hear interesting facts about the real life characters that appeared in the motion picture.
The key sites and landmarks are visited along the way, including the remaining fragments of the old Ghetto walls, the main Ghetto square where the Jews were assembled before being shipped to concentration camps such as Auschwitz.
Finally the tour visits the surprisingly anonymous Schindler’s factory which is a familiar and somewhat peculiar site for those who have not seen it before !
